The same reason that riding crops are $20 at Spartacus and $5 at a tack store in the Midwest. They charge as much as the market will bear. And, to be truthful, most of this stuff isn't mass manufactured which makes it much more expensive.

Because good quality latex is -always- manufactured by hand.

Try making it yourself without gluing your latex to the table.. it's an artform!!

Actually, making your own isn't that hard. I find the designing to be a real bitch though.

If you have some secret to gluing the opposing edges around a breast that makes it easy to do I want to know your trick!

Straight seams are easy compared to having to having a straight seam on lateral side then a few inches over having to glue counter curving seams for a breast. Ugh. I hate those.

Haven't tried exactly what you describe, but I have made socks and stockings. It is one of the things I plan on trying in the next project.

Toes and heels are a PITA. Patience and a very narrow seam got me through it.
That and very short pieces of blue painter's tape 1/4 to 1/2 inches long every half inch or so so help slow down the willingness to curl or touch and self stick.

I did give up on trying to work with the project sitting on the table top and just held it up off the table in my hands or across my lap as I worked. I found that easier to manipulate the piece and let it curve onto itself more naturally and follow the seam on it's own.

The one that drove me nuts was the .060" EPDM rubber corset I made my wife for the Fetish Ball last March. I should post pics I guess.
